On the 09th July 2022, Familypark located in the province of Burgenland, successfully opened “Biberburg”, Austria’s highest Flume Ride.

“Biberburg” translated “Beaver Castle”, is the park’s new major attraction taking riders on a four minutes long, adventurous and unique family-friendly adventure. This beautifully themed water ride was built on the former area of the petting zoo and covers an area of almost 5’000 square meters.

Leaving the station in tree trunk themed state-of-the-art 8-passenger boats, riders can prepare for a splashy and fun filled experience on the 325 meters long water ride.

After the first drop right out of the station, riders get to enjoy a nicely themed floating section before arriving at a dead-end fast-moving platform which changes the floating direction of the boat from forwards to backwards. The boats then drop backwards into the next floating section, making their way to the highlight of the ride, a 17 meters high vertical lift. The lift takes the boats right to the top while revealing stunning views over the park. On top of the lift, the boats are back in their forward position, before whizzing down the drop reaching top speeds of approx. 65 km/h. Austria’s highest drop on a Flume Ride is followed by a camel back hump before experiencing an impressive splash.

On March 25th, 2022 Busch Gardens Williamsburg successfully opened “Pantheon”, their key attraction and most anticipated coaster of 2022, which at the same time is the world’s fastest Multi LSM Launch Coaster.

“Pantheon” combines the might of five Roman gods in one record breaking display of strength, speed and power. The gods referenced in Pantheon’s theme are Pluto, Neptune, Mercury, Minerva and Jupiter. Each god represents a different aspect of the ride: Pluto represents the two inversions, Minerva the launches and boosts, Mercury stands for speed, Neptune for height and Jupiter represents the drop.

Utilizing Intamin’s most powerful LSM launch system, this highly thrilling record-breaking Multi LSM Launch Coaster has a height of 55 meters (180ft) and a physical track length of just over 1’000 meters (3’280 ft). At a top speed of approx. 117 km/h (73mph), reached after the 95° vertical drop, passengers will be able to feel pure adrenalin when riding this impressive roller coaster.

Featuring a total of four breathtaking launches of which three are forward and one is backward, five airtime hills, two inversions, a stunning 95°drop, gripping elements and electrifying turns, this coaster can be described as a coaster enthusiast’s dream creating an unforgettable ride experience.

The two 20-seats nicely themed trains with ergonomically shaped seats and over-the-shoulder-lap-bar, ensure maximum freedom and comfort in combination with highest safety for the passengers.

On the 17th of February 2022, Emaar Entertainment revealed the launch of The Storm Coaster, an indoor LSM Launch Coaster, located at the newly opened Dubai Hills Mall.

A world first rollercoaster integrated directly into the structure of a building, pushing the boundary of all aspects of engineering design. The Storm Coaster, a first of its kind indoor rollercoaster puts guests in the exciting world of storm chasing.

Utilizing Intamin’s most powerful LSM drive system, this non-stop action-packed LSM Launch Coaster has a thrilling 50 meters vertical launch, making every passengers adrenalin pump. Riders will experience airtime, speed changes, a sharp drop and unexpected acceleration on a total of 670 meters of track with a top speed of 77 km/h. The Storm Coaster which wraps around the entire building it’s housed in, will surely delight all thrill seekers.

The three 12-seater, themed state-of-the-art trains with ergonomically shaped seats and over-the-shoulder-lap-bar restraints ensure maximum freedom and comfort with the highest safety for the passengers.

The raging bull LSM Double Launch Coaster “All Speeds” successfully opened to the public and made its first runs with guests on December 31st, 2021 at Sunac Land Chengdu in China.

“All Speeds” is all about speed, many unexpected direction changes and a lot of airtime on an intertwined layout. The approx. 1320 meters long track with a maximum track height of 30 meters is set on a relatively compact footprint, crossing its own path 116 times. The two LSM launches create a top speed of 117 km/h and riders will have no time to take a breath while whizzing through this stunning layout.

This LSM Double Launch Coaster features no inversions, but with the two launches, the number of airtime hills, bumps and humps, the many changes of direction and near misses, this coaster guarantees for a lot of adrenaline and fun.

The four 16-seater, state-of-the-art themed trains of “All Speeds” with ergonomically shaped seats and over-the-shoulder-lap-bar restraints ensure maximum freedom and comfort with the highest safety for the passengers. The eyes of the front car bull head are equipped with red LED lights for an even wilder look to make guests believe they are riding an out-of-control bull through impressive rock works and ancient designed Chinese buildings.

The world’s first Hot Racer and at the same time also the world’s first Launched Single-Rail Coaster named “Big Dipper” successfully opened to the public on December 26th, 2021 at Luna Park Sydney, Australia.

This outstanding Intamin Hot Racer is the centrepiece of Luna Park’s largest investment in multiple new rides, all basically at the same time. The “Big Dipper” packs ten thrilling elements and two launches into a compact layout stretching over two main areas making it Australia’s tallest and fastest Multi Launch Coaster.

After leaving the station and turning left into the rolling first launch, the train accelerates into a Stengel-dive and a zig-zag double-down providing the first airtime moments. After it has entered the boost section the train reaches a top speed of 72 km/h and is heading towards the iconic non-inverting loop ending in a sidewinder inversion. While rushing over an airtime hill, where the passengers experience -0.3g, followed by some high-speed s-curves passing over a fly-over wave turn, the train turns upside-down a second time with a flat spin. With a 180 degree turn and a twisting hop into the brakes, the train finally returns to the station.

The two 7-seater, race car themed inline-seating trains of the “Big Dipper” with ergonomically shaped seats and an over-the-shoulder-lap-bar, ensure maximum freedom and comfort in combination with highest safety for the passengers.

Intamin, world leader for Amusement Rides and Attraktion!, innovation leader for media based attraction formats have joined forces to develop the world’s most immersive amusement ride.

The Dome Ride Theater allows it’s guests to have a unique ride experience with an uninterrupted 360 degree view in any direction and for each guest, as visitors explore the experience in a fully media covered LED sphere. A fully rotating and tilting seating ring inside the LED sphere with 4 mm perforated pixel screens resulting in an extremely immersive total of 75 Mio. pixels.

The LED sphere from Attraktion! has 17m in diameter and includes a moving floor which reveals the full spherical experience only after start of the show, adding a great surprise-effect to the ride’s experience.

The dynamic platform from Intamin can rotate up to 6 rpm and tilt 30 degrees in every direction. Furthermore, the ride features floorless seats as can be experienced in Flying Theaters with a full range of special effects.

The Upgraded Intamin Surf Family: The Surf Rider 2.0 and the Ultra Surf

Intamin is proud to present the completely upgraded version of our “Surf Family” coasters: The Surf Rider 2.0 – available in two sizes – and their bigger sibling with an enhanced ride experience: The Ultra Surf. All of them come with a significantly increased capacity and are powered by the most powerful LSM launch system available on the market. They’re packed, and we really mean packed, with weightlessness and airtime moments.

After talking to our customers, Intamin decided to make important upgrades to the ”Surf Family” portfolio: We kept the fun ride concept and added improvements which are bound to satisfy both park owners and ridership alike.

The new, bigger, state-of-the-art free-spinning gondolas – now with 20 seats instead of 12 – allows us to achieve nearly double the ride capacity per hour. Due to the use of cutting-edge lightweight construction methods and materials we were also able to substantially reduce the weight of the moving masses at the same time.

A unique ride-experience – for thrill seekers and for families – provides an enhancement for every park. This, not only because of the abundant theming possibilities but especially due to the ride’s combination of power, compact footprint, capacity and last but not least simply the fun factor!

The Ultra Surf

The Ultra Surf comes with a large amount of weightlessness and airtime moments: It’s packed with it, not only attributed to the added airtime hill but also because of the two beyond vertical, ejector intense gravity stall ramps. On account of the free-spinning vehicles, the feeling of floating and spinning through the air is experienced in a different way each time, so you’ll want to ride it again and again. Lastly, with the shuttle-style coaster design on a compact footprint, you get an extended coaster feeling with up to 600 metres of experienced track on 180 meters of physical track.

For those looking to increase the excitement factor of the Ultra Surf even further, the optional spin-incitation will enhance the intensity of this new member of the “Surf Family”. Another measure to elevate the experience for both riders and spectators alike are the optionally available water features allowing for a number of different fountain patterns. Speeding through a water vortex tunnel, creating a water wall or riding right through a water curtain – the installation of these interactive features allows for a controlled degree of how wet you want your riders to get or simply allows for adaptions to the seasonal weather situation. These effects are not restricted to water, you can theme the ride to a number of other elements, enhance it with fire shows, add a fog tunnel or dedicate the whole ride to a fantasy figure – the theming possibilities of the vehicle and ride design of this iconic structure are abundant.

In the end, it doesn’t matter what story you want to tell, the ride system guarantees smiling riders leaving the station wanting to ride again and again. With its compact footprint, in consideration of being a signature attraction, the Ultra Surf is not only a perfect ride for theme and amusement parks, it also serves as a great addition for water parks wanting to give their visitors something really unique and special.

The Surf Rider 2.0

The Surf Rider 2.0 – a classic ride reworked to offer you more excitement for more of your guests. By redesigning the vehicle Intamin’s engineers reduced the vehicle weight, almost doubled the instant capacity and added a more powerful spin, guaranteeing that the Surf Rider remains a crowd favourite!

The Surf Rider 2.0 still comes in two sizes, both on a very compact footprint. One reaches a total height of 30 meters and the larger version extends up to 40 meters in height. A controlled spin incitation can optionally be added for an even more exciting ride experience. The most obvious characteristic of the nearly self-supporting, iconic U-shaped track is the two beyond vertical spikes – in which the vehicle surfs back and forth – for up to twelve unique moments of airtime-weightlessness for the riders. A fun ride for everyone, perfect for any size or type of park, indoor or outdoor, looking for a unique new crowd puller.

Intamin’s Innovations Built in the “Surf Family”

The Ultra Surf and the Surf Rider 2.0 come with all the features of the latest Intamin innovations: The vehicles use the most comfortable and popular Intamin over the shoulder seat restraints, which allow for a maximum feeling of freedom. Utilizing Intamin’s state of the art water cooled LSM launch system the vehicle reaches a max. speed of up to 95 km/h and promises a surprisingly powerful acceleration from the very first push. The smooth ride experience is also the result of a simpler and wider track design which allows for less supporting structure.

Intamin’s newest Multi Dimension Launch Coaster, named “Namazu” by the park, successfully opened to the public on July 10th, 2021 at Vulcania, France.

Perfectly integrated into the volcanic landscape of the themed amusement and science park Vulcania in Puy-de-Dôme, France, this Multi Dimension Launch Coaster offers a unique, fully immersive family thrill experience. Following seismologists – who discovered an active seismic zone – the story takes visitors through the themed queue line into the research laboratory of the team “Namazu”, where the scientific adventure begins.

After leaving the beautifully themed station, the train enters a stone cave where an earthquake catches the scientists by surprise. This causes the cave to collapse and the train to fall multiple metres downwards to the ground. Escaping the ruins of the cave, the passengers then experience the first launch followed by a panoramic high turn and an airtime hill giving them a good sense of weightlessness. The next exciting elements are a highspeed S-turn, a zig-zag speed bump and finally a jump over an S-hump into the second launch/boost. Picking up more speed, the riders experience the second part of this Multi Dimension Launch Coaster with twists and turns as well as ground-hugging elements over the hills and down the trenches through the beautiful natural landscape surrounding the research centre, where the expedition ends again.

584 meters of track, one launch and one boost with a maximum speed of up to 69 km/h and a special drop track element take the riders on a family friendly, perfectly paced and complementary science adventure.

The two 12-seat, ATV themed trains ensure maximum freedom and comfort in combination with highest safety for the passengers.

Intamin congratulates Vulcania on their first roller coaster operating in their park and is proud to have contributed to this beautiful project.

We are proud to announce that our partner Ingenieurbüro Stengel together with Intamin has won the Red Dot Product Design Award “Best of the Best” 2021 for the new backbone (BB) coaster track design. This track design is exclusively used in most of Intamin’s new coasters.

The Red Dot Design Award, which since 1955 gives awards to the most outstanding product, concept, brand and communication designs, is one of the most renowned design awards in the world. The jury of 50 international design experts rate products on characteristics like grade of innovation, functionality, formal quality, longevity, symbolic and emotional aesthetics, etc.

This year, the jury selected 77 winners for Product Design in the Category “Industrial, Machines and Automation”. Four of those winners additionally received the award “Best of the Best”, one of them being Stengel & Intamin’s BB Track.

The innovative Stengel BB Track steel element was developed against the background that common track designs for achieving high speeds and withstanding extreme loads have to meet the highest demands regarding safety, material and workmanship of the track, but often pay very little attention to the aesthetic side. Thus, the aim of this design was to further increase the anticipation and thrill of a roller coaster ride by lending it a new shape and appearance. The design of the track with its filigree design language and large track spans allows a significantly simplified fabrication and thus, besides the design, increases the cost effectiveness of the track production. The most recent use of this award-winning track is Walibi Belgium’s Mega Coaster “Kondaa“.

The Jury justifies the award as followed:

“This steel track for roller coasters convinces with impressive technical qualities and a fascinating new shape at the same time. Fundamentally rethinking the design of such steel elements, the roller coaster track has been given an outstandingly appealing look based on the patented concept of connecting curved tubes by means of thin metal sheets. Moreover, this construction approach allows material usage to be minimized.”

Lights, camera – action! Europe’s one-of-a-kind themed Multi Dimension Launch Coaster “Movie Park Studio Tour” has successfully opened on June 26th, 2021 at Movie Park Germany.

Right on time for Movie Park Germany’s 25th anniversary, the new Intamin Multi Dimension Launch Coaster opened its gates to the public, providing a unique family experience with a twist never seen before in Europe.

The versatile Multi Dimension Launch Coaster “Movie Park Studio Tour” system features the perfect mix of action-packed coaster sections and heavily themed dark ride parts. Passengers are passing through a number of scenes and sets equipped with sound and special effects to elevate this fully immersive ride to a world-class attraction. It takes riders behind the scenes of big Hollywood productions and allows them to be part of the film crew of the next blockbuster for a few minutes.

Europe’s first double launched indoor coaster with one backwards-launch section features a state-of-the-art 360° turntable, a high-speed track switch and several special track features. With speeds up to 60 km/h, the train navigates its way through the 532 meters long track through a 3’800 square meters themed hall. It passes through 12 different scenes and sets and also features an outdoors section while passing by the entrance area to the Movie Park Studio Tour.

Germany’s first ever Multi Dimension Launch Coaster seats 12 passengers per train and comes with an on-board audio system to enhance the experience. This adventurous ride is the guarantee for a successful and beloved new all-family ride.

The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) announced Asian Attractions Expo 2021 will take place at Shanghai New International Expo Center, China, August 11th – 13th. The largest trade show of its kind in Asia with more than 6’000 buyers from the attractions industry in the Asia-Pacific region at IAAPA Expo Asia.

Benelux’s highest and fastest Roller Coaster “Kondaa” opened successfully to the public on May 8th, 2021 in Walibi Belgium.

This beautifully themed Intamin Mega Coaster is embedded in an all-new themed area, called “Exotic World” and shines with a unique layout and numerous exciting elements.

“The legend says that 5000 years ago there was a frightful creature. Who ever tried to fight it, paid it with their lifes, except one brave warrior who was able to tame this gigantic monster and snatch an egg from it. Forgotten until today, the egg hatches and the monster’s back: Kondaa.”

1‘200 meters of track, high speeds of up to 113 km/h and 15 airtime moments – more than any other steel coaster in the world, are some of the highlights of this coaster. The many unique elements – some of them world’s firsts – allow for a nice mix of weightlessness, uplifting airtime and multiple changes of direction, all together the ingredients for a fun and at the same time most thrilling journey. “Kondaa” – a true airtime machine!

The 45° steep lift is taking riders 50 meters above ground before the train is diving into a side twisting first drop with an 80° decline. Rushing over the first airtime hill, followed by a unique outward banked airtime hill the train enters the world’s first non-inverting cobra roll resulting in fantastic side-by-side rolling manoeuvres. Riders adrenaline is certainly pumping now. The train keeps on whizzing over a speed airtime hill into a ground-hugging curve and passing over a world’s first wall stall with two second of weightlessness. Riders will have no time to take a breath as the train again changes direction in a 115° over-banked high turn and then continues flying over eight more elements including another world’s first, the side banked double down, before it jumps into the brake run followed by a 180° turn entering the nicely themed station.

The two 24-seats, fully themed trains of “Kondaa” with ergonomically shaped seats and the over-the-shoulder-lap-bar, ensure maximum freedom and comfort in combination with highest safety for the passengers.

The China Attractions Expo is organised by the Chinese Association of Amusement Park and Attractions (CAAPA) since 1990.

Intamin will be attending the 2021 China Attractions Expo Beijing, May 22nd – 24th, in China. You will find us at Booth 3121A

It is the most established international amusement and attractions exhibition in China, attracted over 700 domestic and international exhibitors and over 43’000 visitors in 2019. It has been well-known as a most successful international amusement and attractions exhibition in the industry by far.

CAE Beijing 2021 is expected to draw more than 50’000 amusement and attractions industry professionals from over 120 countries to the 80’000 sq/m venue. The three-day show will host over 800 exhibitors.
