In 2027, Djurs Sommerland will introduce Midgårdsormen, Northern Europe’s first Intamin Hot Racer and the park’s tenth roller coaster. Located in the expanded Vikingeland area, this new family thrill coaster combines two launches, three inversions, and a dynamic layout into an experience designed to deliver excitement, re-rideability, and broad appeal.
First Inversions in Djurs Summerland
Midgårdsormen is a custom-designed Hot Racer, developed together with Djurs Sommerland and featuring carefully selected elements to become one of the most significant attractions in the park’s history.
The coaster reaches speeds of up to 75 km/h across 603 metres of track, combining rapid direction changes, moments of weightlessness, two powerful launches and three inversions.
“This is the first time our guests will be turned upside down on a roller coaster here. It’s a milestone and at the same time a significant evolution of our coaster lineup, as we introduce an entirely new ride type,” says CEO Henrik B. Nielsen.
Family Thrills with Broad Appeal
The Hot Racer features single-row vehicles running on a single rail, allowing for fast transitions and highly dynamic manoeuvres. The result is a coaster that feels agile, responsive, and full of energy from start to finish.
“You experience a world that, for brief moments, feels out of balance—and that is exactly what makes the ride intense, fun, and different,” says Henrik B. Nielsen.
The Intamin Hot Racer platform is designed to deliver an intense yet accessible experience. At Djurs Sommerland, Midgårdsormen has been developed as a family thrill coaster with a minimum height requirement of 120 cm, making it accessible to a wide audience while still offering the excitement enthusiasts seek.
Inspired by Norse Mythology
The concept behind Midgårdsormen was created in collaboration with the Dutch design company Leisure Expert Group, a partner of Djurs Summerland for more than ten years.
Midgårdsormen draws inspiration from the legendary sea serpent of Norse mythology. The attraction’s theme is reflected throughout the ride experience, where sudden bursts of speed, unexpected movements, and changing directions create the sensation of encountering a powerful force hidden beneath the surface.
The coaster becomes the new centrepiece of Vikingeland, further strengthening one of Djurs Sommerland’s most popular themed areas and adding a distinctive new thrill experience to the park’s already impressive coaster collection.
