AIRTIME MOMENTS

Walibi Rhône-Alpes, following a long-standing partnership with Intamin since 1988, opened their new single-rail roller coaster to the public with “Mahuka”, an Intamin Hot Racer, on June 15, 2024.

Mahuka, meaning “escape” in Hawaiian, invites visitors to explore the heart of an abandoned temple built in honor of the God of Fire on a secluded island in the South Pacific. But be careful not to provoke the God’s sacred fire, or risk becoming a prisoner of the temple! Escape the site, conquer your fears, and brace yourself for an unforgettable ride, full of sensations you won’t want to miss!

Maximize thrills in a compact space

Intamin’s Hot Racer is an innovative singlerail roller coaster model designed to maximize thrills in a compact space. With its slender trains and track design, the Hot Racer offers unparalleled flexibility for layout creativity, allowing for the incorporation of thrilling elements within a limited footprint.

Prepare for an adrenaline-pumping ride as Mahuka boasts two launches and seatings positioned close to the track, delivering an immersive high-speed experience with thrilling elements throughout the layout.  The “backboned” track design reduces the number of columns needed in comparison to other track designs, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the ride with the already iconic double top-hat.

Custom-themed and comfortable trains

Featuring stunningly custom-themed trains, Mahuka allows riders to experience high comfort and freedom using Intamin’s highly successful LSM seat design, widely considered one of the most comfortable coaster seats on the market. Additionally, the seats were enhanced with new padding to accommodate riders as small as 120 cm (4 ft), unaccompanied.

The in-line seating configuration, coupled with the absence of over-the-shoulder restraints, ensures quick boarding and disembarking, while providing guests with a liberating sense of openness and maximum comfort.

Enhancing the experience

Building upon its predecessor at Luna Park in Australia, the new Hot Racer has undergone significant enhancements. The chassis was significantly refined to enhance ride comfort and ensure an even better fit to the track. Additionally, the brand-new carbon fiber lap bars contribute to a lighter train and lower center of gravity, enhancing the experience with an even smoother ride.

Embark the adventure with Mahuka at Walibi Rhône-Alpes. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or a casual visitor, Mahuka promises an experience that will leave you breathless and craving more. Visit Walibi Rhone-Alpes and see why Mahuka is the the next step in single-rail roller coaster design!

Many thanks to Walibi Rhône-Alpes and our long-time partners, Compagnie des Alpes, for putting their trust in us once again.

INVERSIONS

The world’s first Hot Racer and at the same time also the world’s first Launched Single-Rail Coaster named “Big Dipper” successfully opened to the public on December 26th, 2021 at Luna Park Sydney, Australia.

This outstanding Intamin Hot Racer is the centrepiece of Luna Park’s largest investment in multiple new rides, all basically at the same time. The “Big Dipper” packs ten thrilling elements and two launches into a compact layout stretching over two main areas making it Australia’s tallest and fastest Multi Launch Coaster.

After leaving the station and turning left into the rolling first launch, the train accelerates into a Stengel-dive and a zig-zag double-down providing the first airtime moments. After it has entered the boost section the train reaches a top speed of 72 km/h and is heading towards the iconic non-inverting loop ending in a sidewinder inversion. While rushing over an airtime hill, where the passengers experience -0.3g, followed by some high-speed s-curves passing over a fly-over wave turn, the train turns upside-down a second time with a flat spin. With a 180 degree turn and a twisting hop into the brakes, the train finally returns to the station.

The two 7-seater, race car themed inline-seating trains of the “Big Dipper” with ergonomically shaped seats and an over-the-shoulder-lap-bar, ensure maximum freedom and comfort in combination with highest safety for the passengers.

Intamin is thankful and equally proud of having contributed to the continued success of Luna Park Sydney.
