On December 31st 2025, Six Flags Qiddiya City in Saudi Arabia opened to the public including the world’s tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster, Falcons Flight.
How to design a record breaking ride?
The brief to design Falcons Flight was clear: Create a roller coaster that would break all records. This resulted in a one-of-a-kind coaster experience with a height of 195 meters, a top speed of 250 km/h, and a length of with a ride time of approximately 3 minutes 25 seconds.
This LSM Launch Coaster layout has been meticulously crafted to guarantee a comfortable and enjoyable experience for every guest, while also keeping it re-rideable.
To achieve this, Intamin’s team of experienced roller coaster designers focused on striking the ideal balance between the thrilling, high-intensity moments and opportunities to pause, catch your breath and take in the surroundings.
Additionally, every element feature meticulously designed transitions, gentle banking and drawn-out curves to minimize forces, ensuring a thrilling but enjoyable experience without overwhelming guests too much.
Ride experience
The layout begins with an LSM lift hill, with a constant speed of 40 km/h, and leads into a 55-meter-high twisted drop. The first section, made up of gentle twists, curves and hills, brings riders to the bottom of the Tuwaiq Cliffs.
There, the train is launched into the longest launch section of the ride, taking riders to the top of the 195 meters cliff with a 150 km/h LSM launch. At the summit, an exhilarating outward-banked turn over the edge of the cliff surprises riders, mimicking the gentle motions of a falcon flying in the air. After a couple more turns, passengers can take in the spectacular scenery before the train heads toward the main drop.
Just before the drop, holding brakes build anticipation for the climax of the ride as riders drop vertically along the cliff into a tunnel. Falcons Flight then reaches the third, final, and fastest launch of its layout, achieving the ride’s top speed of 250 km/h and propelling the train up a 165-meter camelback before racing down the other side.
Riders then experience an unparalleled high-speed section with elongated turns and hills before returning to the station. This last part includes a crossing with the City Speed Park Track, and a section in which the coaster goes below the main entrance bridge while duelling with any passing racing cars.
Latest innovations
For Falcons Flight, the train was custom designed specifically for this project, utilizing Intamin’s ergonomically shaped LSM seat, widely regarded as one of the most comfortable coaster seats on the market. Beside the over-the-shoulder lap-bar design for maximum freedom, it also features lightweight carbon lap bars for smooth and easy operation.
In addition, the aluminium-machined train chassis includes a weld-free design reducing maintenance requirements and eliminates the need for non-destructive weld testing (NDT), enhancing long-term reliability.
Intamin also developed aerodynamically optimised windshields and spoilers to protect passengers’ eyes and ears, as well as enhancing the ride comfort and operations by eliminating the need for goggles.
Furthermore, the newly designed large wheels with ventilated rims ensure efficient cooling, even in the high temperatures experienced in the Saudi summer heat. Finally, the width of the track has been widened specifically for this ride to optimise the train stabilisation at maximum speed and expand the spacing between columns.
A challenging construction
One of the biggest challenges during the construction of Falcons Flight was installing the massive camelback superstructure, with a total wight of around 2,500 tons. Achieving perfect alignment at 165 meters high requires incredible precision and skill.
Falcons Flight also requires perfect synchronization of the more than 722 LSM stators distributed across the three launch sections to achieve the necessary speeds and performance.
Additionally, the long, high-speed launch sections demanded absolute straightness to ensure alignment with the LSM and a comfortable ride experience. These challenges were overcome thanks to the dedication and resilience of the project and construction teams, who faced these tough conditions every day.
Falcons Flight offers an unparalleled experience, distinguished by its exceptional speed, height, and length as a roller coaster. This ride provides a unique opportunity for guests seeking a thrilling and once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Intamin is honoured to be part of this journey with Six Flags Qiddiya City and is very proud of the positive reception of the ride by guests. The entire Intamin team congratulates Six Flags Qiddiya City on this landmark achievement in theme park history.
Intamin deeply appreciates the trust and collaboration of all the Six Flags Qiddiya City teams who have made this project a historic milestone.
